Vine Varieties
Our main varieties are
Bacchus (Reisling x Sylvaner x Muller Thurgan) – 2000 vines
An aromatic white grape from Germany – fairly early ripeing but rather disease prone.
Seyval Blanc – 900 vines
A French hybrid vine that is a productive, disease resistant variety. Fairly late to ripen.
Muller Thurgan – 125 vines
Another German variety which used to be planted a lot in Britain but has gone out of favour because of its vigourous growth habit and lack of disease resistance. This was one of the original vines planted and many have been grubbed out.
Pinot Noir – 550 vines
A very ancient French variety which produces lovely wines but is more suited to rose in our climate. Very late ripening.
Regent – 750 vines
A modern German hybrid vine which is fairly disease resistant and quite early ripening.
